It’s Time to Sell Your Home

It’s time to sell your home and one of the first decisions to make is to choose the Realtor who will best represent you in the marketing and negotiation of the sale of your home. The Toronto Real Estate Board reports that they have a membership of 40,000 Realtors (2014) – this is twice the membership that existed a mere ten years ago. Here in Northumberland County we have a membership of approximately 140; still a large number for the size of our county.

Do all these Sales Representatives and Brokers have the same commitment to the industry? The answer is, that commitments will vary. For many, real estate is a second job and for others, real estate is a part-time occupation due to month’s spent each year on vacation and out of country. Not all Realtors have equal education; yes, there is compulsory education to become a licenced registrant but there is ample opportunity to acquire more education and experience through recognized and respected real estate organizations. When it comes to experience, is it better to enlist a Realtor averaging 5 deals per year over the past 10 years or a Realtor who has only been in the industry 5 years but has averaged 15 deals per year? There’s more to experience than simple tenure. You may decide to opt into listing with a Realtor who has listings as prolific as a Tim Horton’s drive-thru serves coffee and others will treat the sale of their home more selectively and look for representation that is busy but not so busy that you lose valuable customer service.
